Unique, ethical and classy, these kantha embroidered backpacks lined with Ikat fabrics are lovingly made by homebound women artisans.
They are a fusion of the contemporary and the traditional, and celebrate the Kantha embroidery of West Bengal and the Ikat weave from Telangana, which come together on the earthy and sturdy natural jute fibre base, native to Bengal. Kantha is a simple running stitch, used to put together layers of fabrics, typically old sarees into blankets and quilts.
Ikat is a unique weave, where the threads of the warp and weft are patiently tied and then dyed multiple times, to acquire beautiful patterns and colour combinations. Using fine jute and traditional hand made weaves, these Ohrna products celebrate all that is Natural. Ohrna is a not-for-profit which works with artisans across India. It helps create local livelihoods, sustainable products and preserves some of India’s rich craft traditions. Values which are at the core of Peepul Tree.
